Throwback Thursday: Legend of Zelda

This #throwbackthursday was a few days late, so we decided to make it up to you by spotlighting The Legend of Zelda for NES!

The Legend of Zelda was first released on February 21st, 1986 by Nintendo and contributing developers. The game was an instant success, and laid the ground stones for the franchise that's still going strong 25 years later.

The game contains a mixture of action, adventure and puzzle gameplay, while every game in the main Zelda series has three principal areas. These include: an over-world with multidirectional movement, areas of interaction with other characters, and dungeons featuring a labyrinth layout.

The Legend of Zelda has sold over 63 million copies since it's first release, and is the fourth best-selling NES game of all time. The game even led to a television series in 1989. With a rich history and continued success, it's no wonder that The Legend of Zelda is welcomed into the vault!
